This post is meant more as a reminder for myself to start working less and enjoy life more.
Work encompasses most of our days with it’s strict eight hour schedules.
Depending on our jobs, sometimes it’ll occupy a lot more and maybe even the whole day.
But when is it enough?
Is it worth sacrificing all that time to earn a little bit more?
Is it worth it so you can get the next promotion when all of the hundred of hours you put in will only still get you an theoretical fifty percent chance of “yes, you are promoted”?
What are you sacrificing in return to obtain these minuscule “achievements” in life?
Are you sacrificing the time you can spend with your loved ones?
Perhaps you didn’t spend father’s day with your father because you were preparing to hop on a flight back to work that night?
Are you sacrificing the time you can spend with you friends?
Are you sacrificing the time you can spend on your passions and hobbies?
Or maybe you’re sacrificing the time to yourself to reminisce about the good old memories.
In the end, you’ll still be sacrificing something…
But the question is…
Which one will be worth it?
Treat yourself better.
Learn to live to work, and not work to live.
Don’t stress yourself out.
And definitely don’t overwork, because some day you might end up dying due to that.
Heck, the Japanese even have a word for it.
Karōshi (過労死) – overwork death
Life isn’t all about work.
To me, it’s about making the time to enjoy yourself with your loved ones, your friends, your passions and hobbies, and sometimes… your memories.
It’s not about working every single second of your life
It’s about being able to do what you want and when you want.
So enjoy life.
Don’t stress yourself out on situations and leave them for another day.
Take a step back and just watch everything go.
Slow down and relax.
Life is good.
